Abstract

Child stars are known to become reckless in their adult lives and develop bad habits. Their lifestyles often structure around alcohol, drugs, and run-ins with the law. The outliers suggest, however, that long-term success is possible when a child star’s daily life maintains structure and a sense of normality. This is achievable from a supportive family and connection to a life separate from the industry. The stars who rebel and behave recklessly have been overcome by stress, which in turn challenges normal brain development. They are thrown into the thrill of fame before establishing stable guidelines in their life.
